My wife and I just bought a C34 up in Marina del Rey on Friday. She's an '88 named La Vie Dansante. As we're longtime Jimmy Buffett fans, the name stays! At any rate, we think we scored pretty well, as it just came on the market, and was a trade-in on a new Jeanneau. The J dealer was the broker, and it was priced well in the marketplace, and more importantly, very well-maintained. Other than maybe some updating of electronics next year, she's ready to sail. I spent several hours with the surveyor, and certainly have a to-do list, but nothing of any major concern.

She will be delivered the next week-I had some foot surgery a couple of weeks ago, and go back into work mode next week, so I'm not in any position to bring her down to San Diego myself.

I've been away from boats for the most part, since 2000, so it is great to have a nice boat again to enjoy. It'll be docked at San Diego Yacht Club, I've been a member since the mid-90's.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, but what a great site this is. Happy New Year, all!

Ed : Welcome Aboard!!

Take your to-do list and match it against our "Projects", 25 years of "Mainsheet tech notes" and "WiKi".
I'm sure that someone has already tackled that project on your list.  If not ask the question.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the welcome! I've already joined via the Paypal option. One of the things I really loved as we looked for C34's, was this website. What an awesome resource, and definitely worth supporting. We look forward to many happy sailing miles, and I enjoy tinkering too.

Wow, your new boat looks fantastic!  Congratulations.  We're hull #480, so are very similar.  Wishing you all the best.

I am # 570 so have a lot in common. I am very happy with my 34 and have done a lot of upgrades. over the past few years. Be glad to share info.

I'm number 535 and have been pleased. If your PO didn't, make sure you make the wiring harness upgrade number 1 on the "to do list" as if not done you have a fire risk . I would also run a piece of Kleenex along the stainless steering quadrant cables that are accessible from the aft cabin. I discovered a meat hook which could have led to steering failure which has happened to a few of the fellows in our group. If this is the case be sure to immediately replace the cables.

Good luck and welcome--looks like a really nice 34 !

Welcome!! :clap

Too bad you cant take her down from MDR this week yourself... the weather (as you know) is GORGEOUS! 8)
The sail, the play of its pulse so like our own lives: so thin and yet so full of life, so noiseless when it labors hardest, so noisy and impatient when least effective.

Thanks folks. Yes, we are having great weather! Looks like she may make it to SD on Thursday-can't wait for the weekend. We've been stockpiling items for the boat and will get her cleaned up really well and furnished a bit on Saturday. Depending on what my Doc says Friday when I go in-maybe a short sale this weekend too.

I'm into sports cars as well, so getting back into boating means selling one of them, the only negative in this new venture. I'm going to stall that off as long as I can-maybe my wife will forget I mentioned that?  :thumb:

Congratz, Ed!
My son paddles a sea kayak out of La Jolla Shores so perhaps he could tow LVD to SDYC if your foot isn't ready to go this weekend.
Best wishes,

Congratulations Ed!
This forum is probably the best benefit to C34 ownership.  Great boat, great information, great people.

Ah, new owner of a Late 80's C34.  I remember it like it was last summer.  Oh wait.  It was last summer and just like you I had foot trouble in the process.  I broke me heel the week before survey and sea trial.  Boat was delivered via truck and commissioned about a week later.  Nothing like a new love in your life to encourage you to over do it.  I ended up in my walking boot twice as long as I should have.

All the best with La Vie Dansante.

Whoa, is this heavy or what?  I had foot surgery a few months after buying our Catalina 34. Ohhhhhh!

Simply eerie!

I'm glad I got the boat on the back end of my recovery! Although, I had to turn down a spot on a Swan 57 for the first Cabrillo Series race in San Diego this weekend. Who am I kidding, I would've been unhappy out there with my new boat waiting to be fondled.
