Battery Additives

I've got a pair of group 29 (I think) wet cells I use as my house bank.  They are in the later stages of life.  After several charge/equalization cycles the best I can get is a Specific Gravity in the white (~12.5) range.

I have always thought the chemical battery additives to extend life/rejuvenate batteries were in the snake oil family.  But I was talking to an experienced cruiser this weekend that swears he bought some "stuff" at Wal Mart that restored and kept his batteries alive for a couple years.  He couldn't remember the name of the "stuff", is supposed to email me this week.

Anybody got any experience with these kinds of additives?
