I am learing about engines and transmissions.  I have an M35B engine.  It has a spec label on it of HBW-100.  The transmission plate says model ZF 10M.  Am I correct in that these are different names for the same transmission?  The transmission also shows "A=1.79  B=1.86".  I figure these are gear ratios, but what exactly are A and B?

Thanks for any help,
Ken

Have you read the manual?  Available at: http://www.c34.org/manuals/Hurth_HB_Transmission_Manual.pdf

The A value is the gear ratio when the transmission turns opposite to engine rotation. The B value is the ratio when turning in the same direction as the engine.

Ken : The HBW 100 and the ZF10 are one in the same.  That xmission comes in a couple of gear ratios - I'll guess that yours is the 1:1.8 ratio.
