Fuel tank platform replacement?

Did searches and didn't come up with any hits on this subject.

I moved the boat from Channel Islands to Dana Pont a couple of weekends ago and I am now able to 'spent more quality time with her' addressing some of the work that needs to be done.  So what was a two hour drive in the past is now only 5 mins!!   :clap

In search of the aft cabin leak (other post) I took both rear panels out and notice that the fuel platform is heavily saturated with diesel.  This comes from the leaky fuel tank that I replaced last fall upon purchase of the boat.  I did scrub the leak path down the hull and bilge up so that's tended to but notice that the edge of the fuel tank platform that faces the panel (outward) has no glass over.  As a result it's soaked up some of the diesel.  I took a couple of core samples and it seems to go pretty deep into the plywood.

I am now thinking of removing that platform and installing a new one.  Has anyone tackled this project (which looks pretty straight forward)?  Is there another option like just glassing or epoxying the edge to enclose it?  I wouldn't think this is an answer as it doesn't remove the issue.
Thanks!

The only way to completely solve your problem is to replace the platform with new plywood.  Any glass or epoxy over the top will only encapsulate the soaked wood!
If the platform is still structurally sound and you can put up with the smell, you might consider doing nothing!! - at least until you get the other top projects on your list done!

That's what I was aferd of....  i may do it now as the tank is low from the trip south, the panels are out and it doesn't seem to want to STOP RAINING!
Thanks!

So I spent some time this weekend at the boat removing the panel to the fuel tank again.  Sprayed the heck out of the wood, surrounding area(s) and then down inside of the head cabinet under the sink.  Scrubbed it quite a bit and then down to the bilge.
I also hit around the engine to get the old engine oil mist from the engine breather tube that left a lot of the wires covered.
Went back today and I smell Simple Green, not deisel, I'd much rather that smell.  Uncertain on long-term longevity  but so far so good!

Now the holding tank had an issue from the PO so that's next.   Anyone have a Hazmat suit i can borrow???
