The mast has been out now for about a month.  I am happy to report that my bilge has remained dry for the entire time.  With the mast in, I continually had some bilge water.  It did not smell, so I assumed it was mostly rain/dew/condensation wicking down the mast, think this proves it.  Looking at the mast there are several old mounting holes in the cap, the spinaker halyard outlet, and the exit for the radar cable exposed to weather.  They will all get a healthy dose of silicone sealer before the mast is restepped.   Maybe I too can now have a dry bilge!

Ken : I've fought that war (rainwater down the mast for 20 years) and I give up!!  I swear that the only way to prevent it is to put a plastic bag over the top.
I've tried many, MANY things.   :cry4`
