Engine control replacement

I would like to install new engine controlls on the binnacle (Wheel, compas mount) . Unfortunately the stems with the new labeled controls are too short and interfere with the binnacle. has anyone got a spiffy little add-on i can buy to make the new controls fit properly without this interference?

The old ones are plastic and bend to make clearance with the binnacle and the new ones are stainless with labels (See West Marine catalog)

Santa : I assume that you have a early (pre 1991) MKI.  Always give your hull # and production year to get the correct answer.
Most of us have changed out the "Rubber Ducky" shift and throttle controls with the stainless Edson controls from West Marine.
Sounds like you need to talk with Edson - as you have a unique problem.

So your port side control stainless control fits well in the aloted space?
I thought I was not unusual, I will check with Edson.

If the levers are interfering by hitting the binnacle then you'll probably have
to talk to Edson but if they are hitting the binnacle guard then you
may need to adjust your cables.

My shift lever does touch the binnacle when I put it in gear but
seems to be going into gear fine and when I take my hand off the
shift lever it rides back from the binnacle guard a bit.

It's my understanding that if the shift lever rides on the binnacle guard
then the cable is too loose and could potentially damage the transmission.
