Windlass Gypsy?

Has anyone modified the Maxwell windlass with the addition of a chain gypsy?

We purchased Hull #1539  2000 with a horizontal maxwell and gypsy with all chain for use as a bareboat charter.
The horizontal installation is totally unsuitable for the all chain needed.With modifications we have now improved the grip on the gypsy in the down mode but in "up" mose there is not enough drop nor enough room in the chain locker- we get severe and frequent overruns losing all the chain and the anchor.
The C34 needs a bigger chain  locker and a vertical winch- I do not under any circumstances recommend the horizontal.
Maxwell know of this problem.
