External Regulator Wiring

I am in the process (still) of installing a new alternator and Balmar Regulator.
I am waiting on a backordered Wiring Plate for the Prestolite Alternator.
Unfortunately while I waited by exisiting alternator self destructed when the pulley spun off.  Probably my own fault as I had removed it during my investigatory process.

So now I am trying to see if I can install/wire the new alternator and regulator temporarily while I wait for the plate.

I am however confused in that I have more terminals then wires and I was hoping there was a resident alternator expert who can clarify 2 things.

1.  The Alternator Field wiring has 2 terminals, (1 for each side of the field coil), the ARS wiring instructions calls for the regulator to be wired to one of these terminals.
To what would the other side of the field wiring be wired to ?

2.  Pretty much the same question as related to the Stator wiring.  Alternator has 2 terminals, regulator only calls for 1 to be wired.  Where does the other side of the stator circuit connect to ?

For anyone following my previous problems with fitment, I cut about a quater inch off the alternator foot so I could shim with washers and that appears to have worked fine and the belts now align fine.

Thanks

Prestolite ships the alternator with an "internal" regulator attached to the back.  To use an external regulator you need to remove this regulator and replace it with a plate/cover (for lack of a better term) that holds the brushes in, keeps the slip rings clean and provide wiring terminals for the field terminals.

Dave,

I just installed the alternator that Jim Moe recommended and an ARS-4 regulator a couple of weeks ago.  I recollect that it was pretty straight forward except I scratched my head for a moment over one ground terminal at the regulator.  Anyway, I'll take a look at the paperwork and the wiring this weekend if no one answers first.  I suspect those extra terminals are going to be ground terminals, as the hot wire going into the field and stator has to be grounded somewhere for the current to be complete.

With a little more internet data mining and some luck I found the following and had my questions answered.

Thanks
