as I was drilling holes to install my documentation plaque in the companionway just above the top step, water started streaming out just like a fountain.First thought was that I dilled through a water hose but we all know tat there are no hoses there. Then drilled another hole 6 inches below and again water streaming. Anyway drilled a last hole to what was the cockpit sole level and drain again. Eventually ,water stopped  but not before filling about 1/2 galon of water. I figure the water came in from the base of the drop boards but no signs of obvious entry. Tha boat has no dodger so less protection, maybe melting snow has something to do with it!!!1
Has anyone had thins experience ???
will have pic later

Paul,
I have an '88 vintage and have been plagued with the same problem since I took delivery in 1989.  I have re-bedded everything I can think of and have been unable to find the source of the water.  I finally waved the white flag and drilled a hole at the lowest point in the center of the companion way.  We leave our trash can propped over the hole and find a small amount of water in the bottom if it has rained recently.
The problem with tracking this down is that it can be coming in from almost anywhere that is higher or level with this area.  That's the whole coach roof, ports, hatches, etc.
Please let us (ME) know if and when you track this down.  I guess 14 yrs isn't too long to wait for a fix!

As I've posted previously, have noticed similar problem with water leaking at base of steering pedistal. After heeling or fore'aft motion is more noticeable. I'm convinced that water is entering at remote location(s) and then making way to pedistal area thru liner. Suspect if I drilled hole at companionway base would also have water run out. I've also noticed for a long time (years) and have caulked/sealed the obvious places... with limited success. Suspect only remedy will be to strip all attachments from deck and epoxy holes. But always have rationalized that for a future time.
