My Autohelm 4000 was acting Flaky yesterday (turning itself off and on) and I want to open the NavPod to inspect the connections for corrosion, etc.  Looking at the rear of the NavPod there are several fastenings that look like Allen Wrench openings, but have a pin protruding in the middle of the opening.

Has this happened to other members of the board with the Autohelm 4000 and does it take a special tool/allen wrench to open the NavPod. I am also wondering if the water tight seal is made by the visible black ring between the two halves.

Thanks again

Dick:

To remove the screws from the back of the NavPod requires a special Allen Wrench that NavPod usually provides one with their enclosures.   It is NavPod's contribution to boat security.  Yes, the black ring in the water seal between the two halves.  It fits in a recess in each half so the water has to be very determined to get through it.

Hello Dick,
Yes, you need a special allen wrench.  I have one if you need to use it.  I can drop it off on your boat if you won't be there this weekend.  Let me know....I got it by calling the company and they sent it right to me.

Hi Dick,
The allen wrench with a hole in the middle can be obtained in a auto parts store. It comes with auto license bolts.
