Propane Tank

Tried to fill our original 4lb Worthington tank and were denied because it does not meet current codes. Can anyone give any advice. Would like to find a replacement with same dimensions. Checked Worthington but the only size was 4.25 and the tank is too big for current propane locker.

Don't know if you have tried the FIND on the message board for "propane tank."

I had a new "reg compliant" valve fitting put on the exisitng tank by an "Amerigas" outlet in Gurnee, Illinois.It took a bit of begging and about 50.00 to persuade them to modify the OEM tank. You may want to call dealers in the yellow pages and see if they will modify your tank. Good luck.

Bill, I did a lot of research trying to find a new 4 pound tank and in the end Amerigas in Chicago (on Elston) swapped my old tank for a recertified one for $30 (including propane).  The new one was slightly taller so I had to trim the inside of the box lid (even with the replacement from Seaward) but it fits fine.

Got a new lid from Seward (Price seemed very reasonable) and a new tank at REI.  The new tank is a snug fit under the lid, but it does the job.  

One big problem with changing the valve on an older tank is that there are some regulations regarding the age of the steel tank regardless of the valve.

If you call SeaWard, they will sell you a new lid and tank that fit the old box.  Total cost is a little over $100.00 with shipping.  Makes the enitre process very simple...a slightly larger tank, new lid and it all fits into the old box.
