Regarding the NAPA Part numbers provided by Ron Hill (above)...

The 610-51 should actually be 610-1051, and the cost as of 11/17/03 is $34.95...

According to Ron, it is basically the same as the NAPA 610-1011, but much cheaper...

Wow,my request created a monster. Thanks for the research and the speedy reply  of the correct part number. I don't know if it makes any difference ,but the cheaper fuel pump has a lower psi than the more expensive one. If it works for you guys there will be one on my boat as a spare.

Ron, in your article about replacing the fuel pump- NAPA 610-1051- in the November 2003 Mainsheet, you stated Joe Joyce from Westerbeke recommended opening the bleed screw about one half of a turn to create a self beeding system. What is the purpose of this when using a full electronic pump as opposed to a mechanical one. Is there a chance for an airlock or something like that ? Mine seems to be doing fine with the valve closed completly, but the pump itself seem hot to the touch. I this normal ?

In one of my original posts, the information that I stated came from came from an engineer at Purelator - who makes the pumps for NAPA.

The old OEM pumps weren't fused because Catalina screwed up, just like they forgot to fuse the electric bilge pumps that they installed in the early MK1s !!  EVERY electrical item onboard needs to be in a circuit that's fused.

The old mechanical pumps had a 5 or 6 year life.  Supposedly the new electronic pumps have a 20 year life.

A self bleeding system has nothing to do with the type fuel pump that you have.
