My depth displays correctly on my e97 MFD most of the time. Every now and then, however, it shows 2.o feet. Then it goes back to regular depth readings. Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks.

Most likely it's not getting a signal return.  Does it happen in deep water or areas with weeds?

The plotter has a delay that results in not as current data as the actual sounder.  If the sounder gets a bad echo and the plotter makes its querry at that moment, it will display the error until the plotter gets the next update.  The sounder may be so fast that you don't see the error pop up on the sounder before the corrected data appears.

My wind data on the plotter isn't as fast as the display and will not always immediately agree with the display.

It will show 2.0 feet for minutes at a time now, then go back to normal, accurate readings. Water depths or weeds don't seem to matter.

I would disconnect and clean all connections. What brand/model is it?
