Hello,
Recently purchased a 1989 Catalina 34 after selling our Catalina 30. Hull 942. "High Cotton" to be renamed "Paradox". It is moored at Old Lyme Marina in CT. She was beautifully maintained by her previous owner. I've had her out 4 times now and she sails beautifully - surprising how much of a more substantial boat compared to the 30.

Congrats on your new boat.  The C30 has a lot to offer, but as you say, the C34 is a LOT more boat.  It also sails a LOT better than the 30.

Yeah I liked the 30 a lot but this is a whole new level and, unexpectedly, feels easier to handle under both sail and power. Maybe it makes sense that a tall rig 30 is a bit unwieldy compared to a standard rig 34 where the rig is similar size but the waterline is longer and hull proportions more optimal.

First projects include upgrading the prop from 2 blade to 3 blade (maybe Campbell), sorting out the electronics, and fixing/replacing a leaking salon hatch.

Welcome to the club!  I have a much newer C34, Hull 943...I removed my three blade prop and went with the flexifold two blade, love it!  I also had to replace the lens over the salon, and front hatch too, in fact all of the windows!  Great boat, lots of projects and this is where you can learn how to do them all!

Welcome.  May I suggest you spend some time perusing this site.  Read the "do this or else" and check out to see if your boat has or needs the upgrades.  A wealth of information contained here, learn to use the search features.  Very few issues haven't been solved already by the people here.
I hope you enjoy your Catalina 34 as much as I do.

Doug : Welcome aboard!!  There are TONS of information on this web site about C34s as well as the Tech Notes in the Mainsheet magazine (published quarterly since 1987!!!)

Their are few NEW problems, so the answers are out there!!
