Autohelm 4000 control head suffered water inleakage and badly corroded and shorted out. Has anyone replace older style head with current model head?

Has anyone replaced old Standard Horizon DS10 depth and SL10 speed with new 45 series without replacing through hull fittings?

Thanks

Jeff    you can replace the deptsounder without replacing the transducer. They are the same. I have done it and it works fine. The new unit is a much nicer unit.

Jeff:

You can replace the Autohelm 4000 control unit with a Raymarine ST 4000 control unit.  The Raymarine ST 4000 works with your existing Autohelm drive unit and Autohelm compass â€" mine did.  You can find more details on the Raymarine web site â€" use search in their customer support / find answer section.    The part number for the control unit (you also get a compass) is A12009.

Thanks for the replies. Got feedback from Standard Horizon that old speed instruments not compatible with new transducers and new speed instruments not compatible with old transducers. In fact new transducers will not fit in old thru hull fittings. Nor will they refurbish old instruments.

Hey Jeff,

Rebuilt old-series instruments on our previous boat.  Scavanged and bought parts required--spent almost as much as new gauges!  Only real hassle is replacing the speedo transducer wire, and that will be required if your old transducer is shot anyway.  Furthermore, the new gauges have proven to be more water resistant, accurate and reliable.  For what it's worth, it's probably time for new gauges!  When we bought our new boat last spring, we changed the gauges right away--also changed the through-hulls to bronze.  If you have the gauges installed professionally, you should be able to find someone who can change the through hull in the water--saving the cost of hauling.

Best of Luck,
