rudder thud

hello everyone
  this past weekend while sailing up wind and over 4to5 foot swells i began to sometimes feel beneath my feet a dull thud not all the time but often enough to give me pause.

  after checking lockers and engine mts i think its being caused buy the rudder.although when i rest mt foot on the cap i did not feel anything pronounced.

   i wondering if movement in yhe rudder is something that is commen it 1988 models and if anyone has esperienced this through the floor feeling while at the helm.

   your comments and suggestions and ideas are welcome.none of my other boats , all hunters,never did this although the wife, aka the captain said she used to fell it sometimes on our 31.and yes i like our c34 better.

  Thank you for the info , I'll be sure to use it soon. Also I did check the message board for prior post but pehaps my search terminology was bad. I used rudder and rudder noise , but must admit did not check teck notes.Thanks again for your help , keep up the good work.
