I added two hinges to the top of that cover and a spring "keeper" on the side to hold it open. I also mounted two teak drawer knobs to the front so it can be lifted open. Make sure that the knobs are mounted well outboard so they don't interfere with the removable steps. Very handy if you're working on the engine with the steps out and need to get topside. Just drop the cover and also it's something to step on when going back down below.
