White Orchid is the boat of our dreams,
our retirement cruising home. We plan on heading south next
fall (98) and coming back to Lake Champlain for the summer(s).
Plan to hit the islands, Florida, etc, etc. She's aquamarine
and navy stripes with aquamarine canvas, with a touch of navy and
a touch of orchid. She will be sailing south in Sept '98 to somewhere
warm - Florida, maybe Bahamas. By Sept she will be all decked out,
completely outfited with everything imaginable (if Susan doesn't catch
me first!). We will return to Lake Champlain in the Spring, hopefully
to do this until we're sick of sailing or too old. We have a condo
in Cape Coral that is currently rented (Thank God!), and hopefully
will stay that way until we give up the sailing life. |

Reasons for buying the C-34:
1. Liked the design and the standard equipment.
2. Large enough for an older guy to move around on while small enough
and rigged right for short-handed sailing.
3. Many favorable comments on the Catalina e-mail postings.
4. The C-34 has the best website going.
5. I missed the 74 C&C 27, which I sailed for 21 years and sold
last August. |

Our C34 is on order and scheduled for delivery on April
15, 1998. We currently own a Catalina 270 which we enjoyed very much.
Our children who are grown now, decided that cruising is much more
fun now that they are on their own so we need a bigger boat to take
everyone. Saw the C34 at a show in Racine and absolutely fell in love
with it. 'Big Dog' has complete electronics except for Radar. Autohelm
was a must as my First Mate likes to take frequent naps which leaves
running the boat up to me and "auto". The Catalina Dodger
will come in very handy on Lake Michigan. We plan on taking the obligatory
Door County Cruise before we try some real North Channel Cruising
next year. |
