Block Island RI to Cuttyhunk Island MA, 30 miles of open ocean in heavy fog 100 feet

Been sailing since 1981 on a Catalina 22 bought 27 Catalina
new 1983 then a new 1987 Catalina 30' and finally our new 34 in 1991. The best boat for
the money. Can't tell you how many of my friends have other makes that are out of business
and can't get parts or have no association like this. Keep up the good work for we
all benefit. |

Here's something I wish somebody had told me three years
ago: don't ever put a stainless steel screw or bolt into an
aluminum casting, or threaded into an aluminum extrusion like
mast or boom, without first coating it with anti-seize lubricant.
I have had a terrible time with several repairs and upgrades
due to threads seized by electrolytic corrosion. I am
getting ready to put a Monitor wind vane on my boat... anybody
have any hints, tips, dos or don'ts for this installation on
a walk-through transom? |

I previously owned '87 Catalina 27, Catalinas give the
most bang for the buck I think. This boat has a lot of custom cabinets,
greatly expanded interior lighting, 4 12v fans, 16,500 Btu
reverse cycle a/c with 2- 30 amp circuits, electric head, 4-
220 amp hour 6v batteries for dc power, wiring harness upgrade, #2
battery cables, loran, am/fm/CD, GPS, VHF's in cabin and cockpit,
full bimini and dodger. I am planning to upgrade generator and
install an inverter. currently in process of replacing all mainsheet
blocks with Garhauer light ball bearing blocks with rigid vang in
the plans also. a whisker pole when the boat units become available
(1 boat unit = $100). |
