As new owners, this is our first boat larger than a dinghy,
we still have a steep learning curve but are loving the climb. We
live in Sacramento, about 90 miles inland from Sausalito. We use La
Storia as a weekend getaway and occasional weekday escape from Sacramento's
summer heat and winter fog. We are fortunate to sail in one of the
world's most beautiful and challenging sailing areas, San Francisco
Bay. We planned a cruise down the coast to Monterey but bad weather
and a malfunctioning depth gauge forced a cancellation. Maybe this
coming spring we'll be able to make the trip. |

Shift Cotrol at the helm, Battery foward for the windless. We cut

In 99 my wife and I sailed the boat from
Portland Me. to New Bern NC. It was a 40 day trip as we where in no
hurry. Both of us had a wonderful time, except for the first day.
The engine overheated and had to be towed by Boat US, the head sail
on that day ripped also. Thank God for boat insurance. The tow which
would have cost 450 dollars cost nothing because of the insurance.
After that day the trip was almost uneventful, with exception of the
heat. |

is to have the association to go to for information. We are
so unfamiliar
with our boat, that everytime something happens that we don't quite
understand, we find information on it with the C34 owners. We can't

how much that means to have so much information at your fingertips.
We are

| Boat Name Entry |
Since I learned to sail in Hawaii, all my boats (but
one) have had Hawaiian Names. My first boat was named Kapu Kai which
in Hawaiin means Keep off the Water - but that's another story.
Makani is Hawaiian for wind, and Kai means ocean or sea. So we like to think of Makani Kai
as being driven by the spirit of the sea winds. |

We have added a bow anchor roller extension, stronger
bow cleat, additional 35-ga. fuel tank, microwave oven and radar.
We modified the salon table with a drop-leaf on a piano hinge, and
added a storage compartment behind the head. Since our voyage into
the Sea of Cortez in 1990 our sailing has been limited to the Santa
Barbara Channel with frequent week-ends to Santa Cruz Island, and
occasional voyages to Santa Catalina, Santa Rosa and San Miguel.
Makani Kai has been an ideal boat for us. It is perfect for
coastal cruising and island trips from a few days to a week or more.
With some modification and expanded capacity is was quite adequate
for the 1,000-mile cruise to Cabo San Lucas and proved capable of
handling more severe conditions than her crew really cared for.

| How Boat Was Named |
The previous owner named the boat, beacuse she had lived
in Brazil and missed it. We liked the name, so we kept it. |
