My 86 is equipped with an Standard Comm. WS -1 wind speed instrument. The bearing has gone out on the three cup rotor. I have checked with a bearing shop in town but they were not able to match it. Any ideas? or what have others done.

I have the WS 45 which I believe is the successor to the WS 1.  I had a problem with my masthead transducer a couple of years ago and contacted Standard Horizon about it.  Even though they no long manufacture wind instruments, they had me send the  instrument (but not the transducer) to them so that they could bench test it. Once they established that the instrument was functioning correctly, they sent me a new transducer. If I recall correctly, the total cost was about $99.00 and one trip up the mast.

td I talked to Standard and they have no parts for this unit. The unit works but the bearing has failed. I will continue to look for a replacement bearing.

Mel,

You could try DMI Marine. They repair Datamarine Instruments. They are very good to work with and really know instruments and repair. If they can not repair yours, or supply a bearing, they may know where to send you.

Update: I was able to measure the bearing and found one on VBX bearing site. The bearing was $9.50 and they charged $1.03 for shipping. Re-installed this weekend and everything works perfect.
