I would think that someone would come across a rusty bolt or two on a diesel engine if not a lug nut.

And it must have worked perfectly cause you're still alive.

I just saw this in the internet and thought it might be helpful in some cases.

The only problem I had with Whale was that you can't get an individual part, you have to order the whole kit and there is more than one kit so you may wind up having to buy two kits and only need one part out of each.

Not silly at all. Have you sailed a C34? I think you should try the wheel out for a while and I bet you will fall in love with wheel steering. I have had guests that had always used a tiller and were a little confused at first but soon fell in love with the wheel. Try it, you'll like it. :thumb:

The P O of my boat replaced the factory pedestal with the type used on campers and motorhomes. A simple tube for the pedestal and sockets on top and bottom. Worked good for me.

Patrice,
If your engine is original, I don't think it would be an XPB. Should be just an XP.

I have always had excellent service from Garhauer and they are very knowledgeable of Catalina Yachts.

Paul, you really need to get rid of those wire nuts ASAP. They have a reputation for setting boats on fire!

If you do find and use a tracer line, be sure to pull in a new tracer line with the new wire. Makes it so much easier the next time you need to pull another wire in.

I actually got to meet Mark at the Strictly Sail Pacific boat show in S.F last year. Very nice man. He helped me with quite a few projects on my boat. That show is starting in a few days and he'll probably be there this year too.
