Main Message Board / Re: Folding/Feathering Props

Hi, Everyone

If you're interested in a Flex-o-Fold, check the Ship's Store, as they advertise with us and give C34 members a year-round Boat Show discounted price.

We're considering a three-bladed F-o-F.

Good luck and good sailing,
Jon

Main Message Board / Re: Batteries

hi, Bob

The original batteries on my 1997 C34 Mk II lasted only 3 years, and I replaced them with Interstate.  6 1/2 years later, they're still holding a charge without a problem (they're tied-together in parallel as a house bank, and I use a separate Group 24 battery for starting).

The next time around, I may convert to the six volt batteries.

Jon

Main Message Board / New Vendors in Ship's Store
September 29, 2006, 01:44:32 PM
Hi, Everyone

For those of you who bypass the main page (maybe coming directly to the Forum), we've added a number of new vendors to the Ship's Store and will continue to add more.

If you have a vendor whom you like to see added, send me their contact info and I'll contact them.

Regards,
Jon

Main Message Board / Miami Strictly Sail Show
January 27, 2006, 01:39:20 PM
Hi, Everyone

If you're going to be at the Miami Show, please let me know; maybe we can get a dinner together, like we did in Annapolis -- " and a good time was had by all.."

Also, I'll have C4IA burgees for $17 each (such a deal!)

Regards,
Jon

Hi, Paul

Glad to hear that you're back (although YOU might not be!)

I'll call you tomorrow to discuss your placement in the vendor section of our website;  but Stu is right in that you'll end-up talking with Phil Imhoff.

Paul,

If light in the am (or lack of privacy in close quarters) bothers you, why not install roll-up shades?  I installed them in the vee berth and main salon, and feel a lot cozier at night (and sleep better/later in the morning).  And they look pretty good, too.

Tweetybird, our 1997 C34 Mk II (#1346) has both reefing lines led back to the cockpit.

To find out the year that this started, why not contact Catalina Customer Service (818-884-7700 -- CA, or 727-544-6681 -- FL)?

Even if you use single-line reefing, the friction of the reefing lines going across and through the sail at the luff and clew can be significant and make reefing difficult; adding small blocks at the fore and aft reefing cringles (secure by linking the block's shackle through a stainless steel ring on the other side of the cringle) reduces the friction, since the lines no longer have to cross-over through the sail.  If it's easier to reef, you'll do it more often and won't wait as long to do it.

Jon

If anyone has replaced the old engine pod with the new style one, I'd appreciate hearing from you, as I'd like to do it at the same time that I replace the old 1" pedestal guard with the 1 1/4" double-angled one.

thanks,
Jon

Hi, Everyone

Wow!  What a great show and a terrific get-together Friday night at the Chart House!  So many experiences and stories to share...and so much rain!  Still, wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Thanks to all of you who stopped by; meeting you was the best part of the entire time and reminds me why I belong to the C34IA and am happy and lucky to be an active part of the Association!

We've had a lot of interest from vendors who want to advertise with us and are willing to give us year-round Boat Show discounts, so stay tuned.  And there also is interest from the other IA groups to band-together for a single Vendor Showcase to leverage the full power of the entire Catalina Owner's family to bring you further benefits of membership.

Hope to see more of you in Oakland in the spring, and don't forget to contact me if you're coming West.
