Ken, a pic says a thousand words.

Just so that the language translation is out of the way(American to British  :?) , can you post (no pun intended) a pic of what you describe. ie. A pic of how it should be done.

:santa

Thanks.

I'll have to take the same pic on Eximius. I'm sure she would appreciate looking that glam below.

Right now we are focusing on equipment & sails, cosmetics comes next. Something I can be doing when we're hanging off the hook in the Bahamas!  8)

We plan on cleaning the outside of the boat above the rub rail with Magic cleaners and then waxing/zepping the clean surface. We have quite a bit of mild mildew visible to neighbors right now, and the Magic cleaners work wonders, but leave the surface easily remarked.

Just keeping my plate full.

Are you referring to 'Jack Lines' attached to the lower sail slugs that allows the cringle to be lower than the top of the mast gate Screw.

Never heard them to referred to as Dog Bones.

Seemingly unusual descriptive names never fails to cause a smile on my face  :D

Recently on the local news, the reporter repeatedly referred to the high tide (Spring Tide) as 'King Tides' which I had never heard of before, the Irony is that the term appears to be common in the USA but I'm guessing it's used because the tide is 'above the rest'. However for the USA to use such an Imperial title over the more natural Springs and Neaps  :? :?

Our existing main does not have 'Dog Bones' or 'Jack Lines' on the lower sail slugs. Our previous boat, Catalina 250, did!

Another pointer to the sails possibly being original (1987)

Ken is absolutely right, a loose footed main gives you better sail shape and is easier to adjust the shape of the sail.

That's the kind of response I was looking for: Advantages
Any 'Cons' ?

Not sure if the reefing blocks are original, but there are a two matching pairs of blocks & tracks on the stbd side of the aft end of the boom. The current sail might be original! It has the Catalina badge (California) by the tack as well as the Catalina 34 Logo & Numbers on the sail. The edge of the leech is splitting open and is clearly stretched, other than a few holes that have bandaids over them the sail is in remarkable shape for 27 years old. It has 2 large metal cringles in the leach for reefing and a third smaller cringle higher up, that has reef ties locked in for a 3rd reef.

The company made a mistake in the quote, it was doubled, I pointed that out and the rep confirmed the mistake, but as they had not quoted for the new mainsail cover, it has to be redone entirely. I'll be calling them today to get the bottom line.

We had a loft rep come to the boat today to measure up for new sails for Eximius.

He said that most sailors are moving towards Loose footed sails.

Then when he saw the reef blocks on the stbd side of the boom, he suggested that we should go with the bolt rope in boom sail.

Then I mentioned that we wanted the zipup type sail cover and he moved back to the idea of loose footed sail.

Loose or bolt in the boom?

I just worked my way through all 6 pages of that cruisers forum post ... phew!

From that reading, I conclude that there are some that are seriously up to date with the details of bottom paint but, like everyone, they have their own agenda to push. I didn't come away with any clear idea of the best paint to use over here.

When Eximius was hauled in May 2015, we had it power washed and then 3 coats of Pettit SR 60 applied, the Marina recommended that when we explained we were keeping the boat in Fort Lauderdale and planned on cruising the Bahamas for a couple of months.

Our first boat that needed bottom paint. it is what it is. We'll find out what when we haul next year.

thanks Charlie,

ours is only 10K BTU, wanted to make sure we could run it with the Honda.

I'm going to put two vents, both Stbd Side (cut back on original plan) I'm making a ply box to fit atop the V-Berth hanging locker that box will have a vent pointing into the V-Berth and there will be another vent cut thru the bulkhead into the cabin.

Return is the large horizontal opening beneath the V-Berth filler cushion.

I ran the water hose from the head cupboard under the shower tray, nav station floor, into the holding tank locker, then under the holding tank through a new hole into the fwd port side locker, through a new hole into the 3 draw locker space and finally through a new hole into the v-berth.

Tomorrow I plan to install the Discharge Thru-Hull & Sea Cock. and the pump, so i should be able to start it up briefly if I get all that done.

Update.
Finally got the correct size adapter for the Pump out outlet (port side)

Investigating further on the return flow from the holding tank to the head.

We found that even after a pump out, the head would experience bubble back when we stopped pumping.

I checked the vent hose and found a really bad kink about 4" below the port side vent stanchion inside the cubby above the nav station (behind the sliding perspex doors)

I'm going to cut the hose and put in a Elbow to avoid the kink in the hose.

Charlie, does the aft berth get any cool?

On our previous C250, I installed AC in the aft berth with the vent into the cabin, it kept the whole boat cool, but there are no bulkheads/doors other than to the head.

Does the single vent in the cabin sufice?
