If you have a bottle of AF sitting somewhere for storage, check it once in a while for leakage. I keep 2 quarts of oil, a quart of ATF and a gallon of antifreeze in a "waterproof" box in the lazerett and discovered about half the AF has leaked out. Fortunately it is contained, but now I need to figure out where/how to clean the mess.

Rick,
I have an 87 and it's identical set up as yours with one exception. I have a "T" installed in the hose going from toilet to tank and a direct overboard valve.
Changing out that pump is the single hardest job I have done on the boat. When it needs changing again, I will just remove and not replace it.  I used a short hose with a hose barb and threads and just capped the end.
Nice paint job,

Here in San Diego we have to sail all winter. What a pain that is.  :thumb:

The Huth manual tells me to put in .4 liters, or 400 milliliters. A standard water bottle is 500 ml, so its not quit a bottle full.

When in reverse the prop wash is being pushed up into the cavity for the shaft log and it will push water out of that vent tube when backing down real hard.  I believe Newton explained it well a number of years ago, when I was a seaman recruit, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

John,
After soaking in PB Blaster 3 or 4 days the screw would not move. Had to drill off the head then try to drill out the screw, using a combination of drilling and beating on it with a hammer and pin punch. I at last got the old screw out and was able to install the new.  3 hours of back breaking work.  Have not, will not do the starboard side.

Main Message Board / Replacing bulls eye on traveler
March 27, 2016, 11:03:46 AM
Last week I replaced the double bulls eye on the port side of the traveler to a triple.
One word of advice to anyone thinking of doing this, DON'T. It'd be easier to buy a new boat with triples already installed then replace that thing.   :rolling :rolling :rolling

Mark, et all,
When you back down the prop pushes water back toward the shaft and into the stuffing box, thus every time you reverse you have the potential to have a bit of water spit out of the vent hose on your PSS.

On Ciao Bella the hose from the toilet comes into a T-fitting and out the other side to the holding tank via a ball valve. The bottom leg of the T fitting has another ball valve and it goes down to an over board through hull. So you can isolate the tank and discharge direct to the ocean.

The change out of the macerator pump was the hardest job I have done on the boat in the 6 years we have owned the boat.  All that work for a stupid pump I never use.

I put my start battery under the berth in the aft cabin tucked in on the starboard side of the stuffing box. Real short run for the cables.

A change to my Christmas list after reading the articles on the new smart plug, I have ordered the new boat side plug and a new 50 foot shore cord.

The only boat item on my wish list is a davit system. AKA solar panel support bracket.

Here in San Diego our winter storage plans calls for unfurling the sails on a weekly bases and "airing" them out for 6 - 8 hours.

My 87 looks just like the photo posted, fuel tank to port aft and water tank  aft under the steering quadrent. One other tank under the setee forward of the ice box.
