Main Message Board / Boat Fire
May 18, 2023, 04:20:39 AM
Just to let you know we had a Catalina 34 on Lake Erie a couple weeks ago burn to the water line. Taking the boat out for sea trials, the instrument panel caught on fire. 4 people in the water survived but had hypothermia. Don't know but am guessing the Glow plug button. Big wires that come straight from the battery. Charlie

Main Message Board / fuel shutoff sticking
June 18, 2017, 01:01:41 PM
I have a 1986 with an M-25 engine. When I pull the fuel shutoff the engine stops . Then I push it back down the return lever on the engine stays in the off position I just move it back with my finger so it will start. I put a extra stop on the cable to push it back down no help. Is there some kind of spring return I am not seeing. Charlie

Main Message Board / roller furler failure
June 26, 2011, 05:30:41 PM
Had a problem with furling jib would not come out. I have a 1986 pro furl. Got back to  the dock furler would not turn.  Took the jib off every thing check out OK.  Put the jib back on every thing is OK now. I think maybe the halyard shackle got caught on the furling foil. Has any one had a problem with the furler. Charlie

Main Message Board / thru hull fittings
December 22, 2009, 06:21:43 PM
I want to change my  thru hull fitting for my engine intake.  I would like some pros & cons of brass intakes with the grating or slots protecting them. I have a 1986 34 and sail in lake Erie. My old thru hull is flush with the hull. I want to replace it with a larger dia maybe 3/4 in. The problem I have is seaweed in some marinas, have  plugged the intake.  I am not sure who the new thru hull will fit in the counter sunk hole of the old thru hull . Charlie
