Main Message Board / Re: Kubota Starter Motor

Thanks Stu.

I've just found the Kubota parts catalog while rooting around in the wiki (love this site). I am supposing I should order the item entitled "Assy Stater" (sic)...  There is no description, but I am assuming that Assy stands for Assembly.

Starter motor has gone bye bye. The hammer-on-the-side trick isn't working anymore. Considering having it rebuilt vs. a new one from Kubota. Does anyone know where I can find the comparable kubota part number for the starter? Any preferred suppliers?
Other advise?

Many Thanks,

Jim - Sorry I don't have any experience with Catalina's cushions to advise you on. Be prepared to pay a lot for ultra suede.

Anyway I wanted to say that we just had the interior cushions on Frolic done this spring. Not sure where you are on the bay, but we found a good and very reasonably priced upholstery shop in Rising Sun MD. We reused the foam as the Counselor of the Exchequer said replacement was greater than the allocated funds. They've retained a slightly boaty smell, but not they're not intolerable at all. Someday maybe I'll have the foam redone.

The fabric was off the shelf from a discount upholstery supply place in Wilmington. It is strong and so far has been easy maintain (my spilled Dark 'N Stormy came right up).

Thanks Ron!  I say it every time... I LOVE this site and all that you guys do for it.

Looks like my teak and holly sole in the companionway/head area is too far gone for restoration. Rather than just replacing it with new plywood, I am hopeful that somebody has a source for the rubber flooring that Catalina has installed in the Mk II (or something close to it). Apologies if this has already been answered. I searched the BB but didn't seen a mention of it.

Many thanks!

Thanks all!

Ron - Brush the bottom in the Northern Chesapeake? Nahhh... that NEVER happens!  :D

I'll gladly take your great advise on the hard paint for the bottom and the last boat in the sling! Thank you!

As always >this< board is invaluable!

Can I get away with a gallon? or should I plan on an additional quart to finish up the job and hit the stand spots?

So I started reading this thread and had that sudden sinking feeling that one often associates with flashing lights in the rear mirror, or mail from the IRS....

Like an idiot, I completely neglected to treat the diesel in the tank before winterizing her in the fall of 98. She's sat on the hard for 15 months since. I am not near the boat at the moment so I can't even attempt to look at a sample. But I am not hopeful.

I'd appreciate your recommendations on how I might get the fuel into shape, if possible, before she splashes in two weeks. What I should do about the fuel in the line and how I should bring her back to life gently.

Thanks in advance,

Just for fun and venting purposes... Amongst other nightmares I've been enjoying of late....

1) He cut all of the fiberglass in front of the nav station out... possibly with a jig saw, but by the looks of it, he used a handsaw <poorly>

2) He then "installed" a heinously cobbled together "wood" insert... including 3 mini-drawers made from all variety of scrounged dumpster materials (flakeboard = great in marine environment, 6 matchpacks = good for leveling drawer slides, royal finger bowl hand wipe packets = also good for leveling drawers).

3) The very "liberal" application of Cetol while obviously at sea or drunk without bothering to clean up ANY of the drips and runs in the non-skid.

I could go on, however I knew what I was buying. I will see to it that when she comes time to have a new skipper, she'll be in Bristol fashion... and/or I'll have suffered divorce court in the attempt!

I still love the Catalina 34!

p.s. - I love scrounging, but this isn't "Junkyard Wars"!

5) is all of the above

Thanks gang! Great information!

I found a local shop that comes recommended.

Next question: The Counselor of the Exchequer has tentatively approved the expenditure and now it's down to the variable of fabric types to finalize the deal....ugh.  I don't need sunbrella for an interior application, and I am fairly confident that the ultrasuede will too costly.. Please stop me if I am incorrect in that assumption.

Is there some fabric designation for "marine applications"? Did you have the vinyl type of material that Catalina included on the original cushions replaced? Is that readily available? Is there anything I am missing.

Thanks again for the great advise!

Yes... this is a real question.

I have the plans and materials to build a 12 foot,  stitch and tape V-hulled sailing tender (the Bateau v12) that I bought years ago when we had a c34 mk II. We now have a mk I and as everyone knows, the mk I's have much less beam.

We have a fantastic set of Kato Marine Davits mounted and while I am confident that a 12 foot dink would be a REAL luxury, I am concerned that in practice will be just too big when up in the davits. I can imagine a tight slip or close call with a piling at a gas dock could be disastrous.

We are not small folk and we tend to have a couple of kids with us frequently so a decent sized tender is important.

Your advice/speculation is appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Main Message Board / Catalina Cushions for Dinette
March 17, 2010, 07:52:08 AM
All:

I know there have been lots of threads re: replacement of the dinette and settee cushions. Please forgive me if I am being repetitive with this post.

We have a 1988 and the interior seating has seen it's day come and go a loooong time ago.... I was wondering if anyone had recent experience buying cushions from the factory? Can I get swatches for the Admiral to inspect? How much did the cushions cost? Was the quality up to snuff?

We have pretty much decided to use the factory option just to eliminate the guess work of picking a local shop to do new upholstery. That said, I can be dissuaded of this notion if anyone is aware of a shop in the PA/DE/MD area that does quality work at a good price.

My budget is around $2300.00 and I am hoping that I can get it done for that as creature comforts are important to the crew...

As always - This board is awesome!

Thanks for your input,

Steve

Thanks Brian! Nice to see some pictures of the ol' girl! I have great memories aboard that boat.
