Any suggestions for lubricating the in-mast furling system on our 2004?

Thanks

Main Message Board / Rust on Stanchion fittings
September 24, 2022, 01:55:28 PM
I have been using a product from West Marine to clean the rust off the deck that forms from underneath my stanchion mounts when they get wet both at the dock from moisture in the air or when I'm on my mooring in Catalina after sailing over.  My frustration is that it comes back very quickly after I've cleaned it all off with the chemical.  Has anyone else had this problem and can tell me their remedy?  I am wondering about cleaning the deck really well and then applying a "caulking" compound around each base after the deck is really dry in hopes that the caulking will keep the water from getting under the mounts causing more rust to appear.  Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Main Message Board / Fender for YourTender?
March 13, 2021, 05:34:26 PM
We use a Boston Whaler 130 Sport for our tender.  There are times on our mooring when I don't want to side tie it, rather I would like to tie it off of the stern and board over the swim step.  My dilemma is it hits the ladder when there is any surge.  Anyone have a good fender(s) system they use on the bow of their tender to remedy this problem?

Thanks

If you have a whisker pole that you aren't using anymore, I'd like to buy it.  I want to use one when sailing this summer from Catalina back to Alamitos Bay, Long Beach, CA.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.  Another quick question.  As I recall, when we purchased the boat about 10 years ago, I could turn the inverter on without having the generator on when we were at a mooring in Catalina, though if we were doing anything more than watching TV,  I had to run both the generator and inverter to fire up the microwave.  Now, I have to have to have the generator running for the inverter to function at all.  Is that the way your inverter works?

We are still using the Xantrex inverter/charger system and Link Panel 2000 for remote management of the batteries on our 2005 Mk II.  It was original equipment and is showing its age--inverter won't go to the on position from the panel nor will the panel allow me to reset the Amp Hours Used anymore.  Has anyone replaced their Xantrex with a new inverter/charge system that you would recommend us doing also?

Thanks

I took everything out of the two stern compartments yesterday and tracked down the vents and hoses attached to them--they were attached to the drains on either side of the cockpit.  Both sides were a little loose, the one on the starboard side was really loose.  I tightened both hose clamps up and will check to see if we get any more leaks on a sail next week to Dana Point.

Thanks to all who gave me ideas as to where to look.  I really appreciate this organization.

We have an '05 Mk II 34 with two small vents on the swim step that "appear to leak" water under the aft cabin bed. It only seems to happen when we are under full power and in a following sea. Then I can actually see water sloshing over the swim step toward the wheel.  I'm contemplating trying to seal the 2 vent holes from the inside to stop this leaking.  I have not noticed any water even in the bilge when we are just under sail or not under full power.  The transom area is always dry under sail.  Has anyone else experienced this situation and if so, what did you do to rectify it?

I'm not sure what purpose the two vent holes serve and don't want to cap them if they really serve a purpose.  Anyone know this?

Thanks

Have any of you experienced getting water into the space in the little passage way between the galley and the aft cabin?  We were in light wind conditions last week with the motor on and a following swell of about 3 feet at 7 seconds that would catch up to us and push us along.  However, once in our slip, we noticed the carpeting in that area was wet.  It appears the water is coming from the stern vents in the swim step area.  The bilge was dry.  Any suggestions--we have a 2005 Mk II C-34.

I just found a vent that I think will solve my waste holding tank non-venting issues for my 34 Mk II at Catalina Direct.   It looks like it will work fine--it's one that is now being used on a variety of Catalina sail boats: C-28, 320 and C-42's.  Has anyone else added one of these vents to increase air circulation for their holding tank?

CD's suggestion is to mount the vent just below the rub rail--I'm figuring on that location and virtually inline with the existing stanchion at about the "stripes level."  Does anyone know how thick the hull is at this point?  I'd like to have an idea how thick the hull is before I start drilling it out and installing the new fitting.

Thanks

The picture is a closeup of the vent hole in the stanchion--where you can see that the hole is blocked by the same color of metal--I figure it is either stainless or an aluminum tube that was inserted into the base of the stanchion for attaching the elbow and waste pipe.  The metal blocking the hole inside the stanchion is what I can't figure out to do with.  Sorry it I was unclear with my original post.

There appears to be metal covering the hole in the stanchion that serves as the vent tube for the waste tank for the head. I checked below deck--behind our switches panel.  I removed the hose clamps on the metal tube that protrudes below the deck where the elbow attaches that connects my tubing to the vent pipe.  I have attached a closeup picture of the stanchion base--I know that the hole in the stanchion used to be open as I often put water down it when washing the deck to clean out the pipes.  Now I see another metal blockage--should I just try drilling through it to open it up again?  I've read on this Forum about other owners adding a new thru hull for venting--I'd rather not do that.

Main Message Board / Halogen light bulb wattage?
March 31, 2020, 07:06:21 PM
We have two reading lights in the v-birth that are two-pin halogen bulbs on our 2005 34 Mk II.  I need to replace one of them that has now burned out--anyone know what wattage they are?  I can't find a notation on the bulb itself.  Thanks
