That's correct, it's the plumbing antifreeze not your engine antifreeze.

Thanks for the instruction on blowing the lines.  Maybe Ralph was right...there is something to be said about being moored in the south, the only winterizing you lucky devils have to do is winterize your drinks with ice.

Since we are talking about winterizing.  What about the plumbing. Typically I drain the water tanks and replace it with antifreeze and run the taps until the anti freeze flows through all the lines.  But, it takes a while in the spring to flush out the antifreeze.

So this year I was thinking about blowing out the lines but i wasn't sure where in the system I need to hook up the air hose to.

Any suggestions?

We had a lightning strike at my Marina last week two.  A 38 ft Catalina took the direct hit 4 slips down from me.  He lost all his electronics too and the list is still be compiled.  He got hauled out the other day.

So far I have lost my battery charger and I had to replace my 30 amp main breaker.  I'm going to have to change all of them I believe.  When I got to the boat the next day, the fuse on my charger was blown, the DC breaker had been tripped.

Not fun at all.

Where is the galvanic isolator ???

I will examine that.

Hello Larry,

I just replaced my battery charger as a result of a possible near by lighting strike.  As a result I had to replace some wiring along with my 30 amp breaker on my panel.  After taking my panel apart and looking at that rat nest of a wiring job on my 89 C34 I am contemplating a panel replacement too.

Was it difficult to replace the panel?  What model number panel did you order from Seaward? And what did it cost?

In order to replace the panel did you have to do a lot of wiring modifications ?

Thanks,

Darrin

Main Message Board / Shipwright Battery Charger
May 28, 2011, 06:16:40 PM
I went down to the boat after work today....the first sunny warm day in a long while.  So I reached into the fridge to grab a cold beer...only to find a warm beer.

Further investigation revealed that my battery charger appeared to have stopped working.

I have a Shipwright 50 charger...after doing a quick preliminary internet search I have discovered that these units may be outdated.

Does anyone else have this unit or have any advice on troubleshooting?

If a repair is out of the question, can you reccommend a replacement charger ?

Thanks

Thanks for the input! I think I will steer clear of the Globe impellers.

Ok, I have read a lot of post regarding impeller's and different types.  I have never experienced so much difficulty as I have regarding ordering an impeller for my c34 compared to any other part.  I have the Oberdorfer pump, not the Sherwood. So far I have come across numerous makes of impellers such as Jabsco , Globe, and I have part numbers to go with them that I have discovered in manuals and various posts.  But when I call distributors it's like I'm talking a different language.

I am trying to decide was is the best replacement impeller to go with.  From reading other posts, people have replaced their impeller with a globe, only to have it crap out on them in the near future or have difficulty priming after the initial replacement.

So what is the concensus?  What is the best way to go? And if you have a favorite, what is the part number?

Thanks!

I paid $4,500 to have my C&C 27 painted....and that was 8 or 9 years ago...and the guy gave me a good.  Paint has gone up since then too.  What a difference though! Made my boat look brand new.  I've since sold her and I was able to get top dollar for her.

Spring time is looming and it will soon be time to roll on some new anti-fouling paint and splash the boat.

I have a few 1 inch spots on the bottom of my hull where the bottom paint is uneven.  Any suggestions on how to even out the layers without having to blast the entire bottom?

Has anyone tried a LED project in the cockpit area ?

By the way, the new lights look great in the cabin.

Main Message Board / Dinette Table
January 11, 2011, 04:32:07 PM
I was at the Toronto Boat show this weekend looking at the new boats and dreaming of warmer weather (it's blowing snow right now and we're expecting 5 to 10 cm tonight).

I was aboard the C35.5 and I was looking at the dinette table that they have installed in the newer models these days.  It's a square table and the four corners fold in and sit on top of the table to form a cocktail table and of course unfold to form your full table.  (You can see the table on the Catalina web site)

So I started thinking that, that table would be a nice upgrade for my 1989 C34.  But as the day went on I started to think (ok, my better-half started thinking) and we realized that out mast that is keel stepped would probably interfere with one of the corners and not allow it to unfold completely.

I would actually have to start doing some measuring to confirm this, but I thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone else has examined this possibility.

Thanks!

Merry Christmas!

I'm jealous of anyone who's boat is not covered in ice and snow right now!

Cheers!
