I did use the pressure washer.  I kept it away from all the fittings. It worked great, and the boat never looked so clean.  I used the wider spray.

I've been using my PW for at least 5-6 years and during that time have loaned it to several dock mates and they like using it so much, the bought their own.
As far as the nozzle goes, a couple years ago I discovered the occilating nozzle.  It's basically a 0 degree, but spins in a very fast circle, maybe a 25 degree circle.  Even though I have one of those multi head nozzles, the occilating one is all I ever use.  Heads and shoulders above the rest.

Just a head's up....
I got a renewal reminder letter from one of the scammers last week.  They clearly stated that renewals are mandatory 5 years only.  False.  CG Doc office offers 1-5 year renewal, at $26/year.
I guess the scammers, knowing their databases are starting to dry up, are trying to get as much money as possible as quickly as possible....5 years at $75/year.

having moved from LI Sound to northern Chesapeake, I have had no luck with the Petite Spray on paint. Worthless. What have people had success with?

I've been using it for some years now and have had decent results from it.  First time I ever heard of it was from the guy I bought my C34 from in Rock hall, some 11-12 years ago.  He swore by it and I've continued using it further down the bay on the Potomac.

The fee schedule on the NVDC website has been corrected.  1-5 year renewals are available for recreational boats.  Still 1 year only for commercial boats.
Just a reminder, only renew with the real CG Doc office...$26/year fee.

Just bringing this topic back to the top of the page as a reminder....
The REAL Coast Guard documentation office only charges $26 to renew.  Don't fall for CG look-a-likes that charge $75.

Also, I recently saw that starting in 2022, the CG office will only renew for a full 5 years, $130.  No more year to year renewals.

Regarding the 5 year only renewal plan,  this was changed 12/27/2021....you can still continue to renew for 1-5 years.  The fee schedule on the NVDC website says 5 year renewal only.  It is a mistake and will be corrected soon per an email I got from the doc office.
This of course is for recreational boats only.  Commercial boats can only renew for 1 year.

Absolutely replace all bulbs with LED's.  Before I made the change, I measured the temps of my halogens...around 200 degrees.  LED replacements were around 120.  I do suggest you get the soft white bulbs, 3000 degrees Kelvin or less.  When you get into the mid to high 3000's, the bulbs put out a bluish tint.  The higher the kelvin temp, the bluer it will be.

I made my own as I can't stand using slats.
I also used lift off hinges...makes a big difference

If I'm not mistaken, there are a couple of companies doing the same thing...or one company that keeps changing their name.
So....everyone be careful.  I fell for it about 3-4 years ago.  Never again.

I just removed decals that had been on for years, metal razor and mineral spirits for the residual adhesive.

I've used a razor more than a few times on several different boats.  Heat it up some, go slow and it works great.

A couple of years ago, I followed Ken's suggestion to get my pump from Yacht Supply.  It was the exact same pump that was on my '87

If the usual tick...tick...tick... of the fuel pump suddenly increases in speed, just give it a couple of minutes and it will slow back down to its usual speed.
I learned this the hard way.  I thought I had a bad fuel pump.  Bought a new one and threw the old one away only to find the new one still had the faster ticking.  After a couple of minutes, no problem.

Just an FYI, my dock neighbor has a 16k BTU A-C unit and he runs it on his Honda 2000.  I never would have thought a 2000 would run that large of an AC, but it does.  I even tried it on my 16k unit and it worked like a charm.  When I first turned on the compressor, the Honda bogged down for just a moment or two and then came right back up and ran my unit fine.

It's been suggested to flush out the channels first.  I don't have any drainage holes on mine so how can I clean them out?

A coat hanger with a wet rag tied on?

Good suggestion, but shouldn't the boat have some kind of drainage and what's the best way to add some kind of drainage to the channels?
