In Martha's Vineyard there are eels that make an extremely loud clicking sound.  We thought they were little crabs feasting on the bottom growth of the boat, until a 'local' told us what they were. They would be intermittent and not in every mooring spot.  The live in the mud and are not in the Boston Harbor area.  Understand you ruled out critters, but there may be all manner of local aquatic life that may be down there.

Hi Stew,

Yup, I have a '99 MKII and have the same turnbuckles on all the shroud bottoms.  They are OEM stuff.  Just have to be carefull to periodically lift the stainless covers on all of them and gime 'em a spray with WD-40 for moisture.  They work fine and are easy to adjust if kept lubed.

A bit of Loktite Blue works too.

I use it on my Edson knurled knob also to kee it from backing off.

We hav and Edson steering wheel holder that's mounted to the stbd bimini rail that we use to put the wheel on when we need unrestricted space in the 'pit'.

I will be putting Ocean Rose on the market very soon if anyone is looking for a C-34 in the Boston South Shore area. 

I'll be listing it on www.sailboatlistings.com as well as "C-34s For Sale" on this site.

May possibly be getting a smaller sailboat in a year or so.

And I know a bunch of people here in the Boston area, power and sail (a C34 MK II) that live aboard.  So couple all that along with freezing temps, snowy - slippery docks and the boat being under a shrink wrapped cover (no outside visibility). 

More fun than having a root canal w/o anesthesia!!

On my 1999 MK II, I take the helmsman seat and hang it on the stern ladder using the notches cut into it to sit on.  My wife is 4-11 and she can sit on the seat and see very nicely over the nav pod (pic of me sitting on the seat).  The last rung of the ladder also make a back rest (a bit hard, but suffices).

Set2sea,

A couple years ago there was a Catalina 30 next to me in the storage yard and he had disconnected the lower shrouds.  During a winter storm, the mast was rocking back and forth (Port to Starboard) about a foot each way.  I'd strongly suggest not disconnecting them.

Thanks all for the help.  I spoke to GEICO yesterday and got a quote for about half of what I was paying.  They told me that I was a bit high on the value so reducing it to the high end of the BUC value, while keeping my same deductable.  I wasn't aware of the Sandy/Irene issue but it makes sense when I thought about it.

I know that this is a very personal topic, however, my insurance keeps going up without any claims.

I currently have Traveler's and have looked into Progressive, Boat US (which are about the same cost as Traveler's, all in the $1300-$1500 range) and GEICO (which is $871).  I used the same coverage information for each quote, with the only exception being the dedutable which was between $500 and $1000.  I can't fathom why there is such a big difference between the policies.

Can anyone offer a reason why this might be?

Forgot to say that both spaces can be easily accessed with the filler cusion in place.  We never remove the filler cusion.

A  couple years ago I added a shelf aft of the forward water tank and on both sides of the vee berth.  I then removed the useless drawer and enlarged the opening to 29x13 and added another opening on the starboard side of 13x11 inches.  The shelf is above the knot and depth sounder transducers and also has a cutout that can be removed.  I had double and single doors and frames made to access the opening.  It opened up a whole new area of storage that's above the bilge in the bow.  Attached are pics of before and after as well as the diagram for the doors and frame.
