Just wondering if anyone has tried to make a wind vane and link it to the emergency tiller post  ?

I m  thinking  welding a wheel to the tiller post  and linking that with a belt to another  wheel   on the vertical  wind vane --

mad idea  ?

HAUNTED BOAT

This is my second night of very little sleep. The cause of my malaise is a mysterious intermittent undescribable noise.

I first noticed it last week at a different marina, I haven t heard it yet on the hook.

I ve disconnected shore and battery power – and it occurs with no wind or swell.

Do hulls expand and contract ?   Because the noise is impossible to pinpoint. Sometimes starboard sometimes port, usually midships.

Now the boat is new to me so zincs maybe shot – related ? Am I being zapped electronically ?

so hard to convey the sound ...   It s like the hull is being hit by a salvo of stress fractures ... for 4 - 6 seconds , then it will stop for 20 and continue ..  and it s so loud !  I moved my boat so as not to bother a neighbouring slip.

I m at a loss, fatigued and perplexed !

Hi all,

searched the forum for a few hours and can t find the answer ...   anyone help ??

I wrongly over cranked the engine thinking key on + alarm was warming the glow plugs ...  then realised spring pressure was needed to warm plugs ...    ENGINE STARTED !   great

however once started ... I no longer have coolant coming out of exhaust.  Is this a result of over cranking ?  would just cranking damage the impeller ?

water enters the filter after sea cock so took off input hose to impeller and filled it with water and replaced --  no luck ---    don t have a small pump handy to prime ...  one owner has suggested taking off outlet hose to impeller and starting ...    good idea ?

before I was cranking with the sea cock closed to avoid flooding ..   and opened the butterfly valve - a small flow came out ...   but dont understand it s function ...   does it drain the muffler ... ?

what next  ?

Hi,

Done searches here but can t find the answer -  why does my new boat (1990) have two steel cables fixed either side of the mast about 10 - 12 ft  below mast head. Each is about 5 -6 ft long and each has a pulley at the end - They just swing about in the breeze  and complicate mainsail raising --  are they for managing a headsail ?  can I just climb up and eliminate them ?

txs in advance ,

Ian

Good morning to everyone on the site -

I am a newby and proud owner of a 1990 catalina 34. I m very excited to take possession next week. (previous boats =  Allied Seawind + Catalina 30, fin)

some of you may have seen her on e bay last week for sale by usauctions -

http://usauctions.com/ItemDetails.aspx?ID=9608

( if I outbid you - I m real sorry .  but I had to have her ! )

so, from the pics one can see fire damage which seems to have originated from a short at the electrical panel.    (can t work out how to include a pic here !)

1  Obviously I ll scan this site for help, but has this occurred to anyone else ?    What, and just guessing, may have been the cause ?

2  I have some handy skills - mainly woodwork -  but where would more experienced electricians start ?

e g =  2 / new batteries,  find source of short, replace wiring with correct grade,   then stand well back when you flick the switch ???

3  The panel looks well fried,  Does anyone have a used electrical panel I can purchase / have ?

Boat s in Rogersville, AL

Kind regards to all owners,

Day Dreamer (yes I m a Brit !)

somebody pls tell me how to include a pic - insert image icon does not work for some reason -
