Join the Catalina 34 Fleet 1 to the Coyote Point Yacht Club for our last scheduled cruise of 2009!

CPYC is located on the grounds of Coyote Point Recreation Area. Coyote Point is a peninsula located on the west side of San Francisco Bay, just south of the San Francisco Airport. There is an 18 hole golf course, a world class environmental museum and a beautiful county park within walking distance from the marina.
Friday night the club house is open for dinner.

On Saturday we will have a social hour on the dock at around 1700 followed by a group barbeque.

RSVP to Scott Lee leescott@sbcglobal.net .

Sexscript, Painkiller, and Crew's Nest enjoyed a great weekend.  All arrived on Friday afternoon after motoring down the South Bay - no wind but warm weather.  Saturday was spent exploring the area, doing boat projects, reading and sleeping in the warm sunshine.

We thank CPYC and Torin Knorr for their hospitality and a great streak dinner on Saturday evening.

We also thank Scott and Sharon Lee for organizing the Fleet 1 Cruising Program in 2009.  If you have an ideas for 2010, be free to let us know

Main Message Board / Schaefer Furler - Series 2100
February 06, 2009, 12:43:37 PM
The early version of these Furlers have no good way to flush the salt out of the lower bearing – the bearing inside the rope drum.  After a few years (in my case 10 years on a 1997 MK II) the furler gets very hard to impossible to rotate.

I called Schaefer to get some parts and found that they admit there was an issue and sell a replacement bearing assembly for $100.00.  I also ordered a complete set of screws at the same time.

The new one has two holes near the top to flush out the salt etc.  It took just three hour to replace the frozen bearing with the new one – ease the backstay, pull the mast forward with the halyard, disable the furler (12 screws), disconnect the forestay, take out bearing and reverse the process. The hardest part was getting the SS screws out of the AL housing.

If you have one of these, I would suggest you consider replacing the bearing while the price is right.

Schaefer customer service was extremely helpful.

We now have a date but it is not in August as we expected - it is JULY 14/15 and will be a BBQ.

San Francisco Cup:
As we said in the last edition of Telltale, this regatta has been moved to South Beach Yacht Club - September 22 and 23.  The Saturday races will be windward / leeward courses using a Time on Time handicap.  The Sunday Course will be a course selected from the Inter Club South Bay courses using Time on Distance handicap.

Telltale:
We are making some changes to the way Telltale is distributed - hopefully bring us into the 21 Century.

The Changes / Options are:

A.     Start with the next issues, Telltale will be posted on the Fleet 1 web site and you will receive email with the URL pointer so you can read it at your leisure.

B.     If you would prefer,  you may choose one of the following options:

      1.  Receiving an email with Telltale attached in .pdf format.

   2.  Still receive a hard copy via the US post

by responding to this email stating your preference - #B.1 or #B.2.

C.   The 2007 budget for distribution hardcopy (6 editions) of Telltale is $300.00.  Any money save by using either #A, or #B.1 will be use to provide wine at the Annual Dinner in Jan 2008.

Telltale call for articles:
Members must be sailing to all sorts of exciting places on the Bay and Delta.   Share your adventures with other members so they either can enjoy the same fun or not make the same mistakes by sending an article to Paul Goss at - pgoss@gosspartnerships.com - before the 15th of the month.
