Main Message Board / Re: Exhaust fumes
February 26, 2024, 10:14:49 AM
Hi Tom, It's sometimes referred to as the "station wagon effect". Depending on weather conditions, the engine exhaust can roll up over the transom into the cockpit.

I know you said you don't have a bimini, but I first noticed the exhaust fumes after motoring a long time one day after installing my bimini and connector. Never noticed it before. I removed the connector and vast improvement, but still a hint of it. I checked my exhaust system and it seems fine. I haven't been able to get to the boat in months for various reasons. When I do, next steps are to:

recheck my exhaust system.
add fuel injector cleaner (maybe poor combustion).
if still noticeable install my aft weather cloths to see if that helps.
If still happening call a diesel mechanic to have the system checked out.

To keep myself out of trouble, I said "handles" but correct terminology is "Hatch Dogs". The hatch dogs come with the mushroom caps, but if you just want the mushroom caps I bought those a few years ago from Go2Marine. The Bomar part number I have for them is P2000-27, or BOMP200027 so you can search for the best price. I recommend that you talk to a Tech Support at Catalina Direct before ordering the gasket from them to make sure you get the right gasket profile. They have two versions for Bomar and only one of them fits our hatches. Good luck.

FWIW - On my 1987 MK1, I replaced the gasket on the Bomar trapezoid fwd hatch and the Bomar square saloon overhead hatch. Bought the gasket material at Catalina Direct. On the fwd hatch I replaced the handles, plus replaced the  mushroom caps, and o-rings on both fwd and saloon hatches. A thicker lens is available at Catalina Direct or I can get at a local plastics shop. What parts couldn't he get?

I have two SST hinges screwed into the fridge lid and the counter. The lid opens as far as possible without hitting the locker above it (I think the MK1 locker above the fridge might be narrower than newer boats). The lid is held open by a SST clip a PO found and installed. Works great, it's simple, no maintenance, and no need to find somewhere to put the lid when you're in the fridge.

Main Message Board / Re: K75 motor mounts.

Thanks SV Sand Pebble, great advice on checking the horizontal requirements. For future reference where did you buy them, what is the engine isolator mount brand, and what part numbers did you end up using? Thanks for the help.

Hi Cliff, If you're talking about my write up; go to the Tech WIKI on this website, scroll down to Projects by Boat/Author, then click on Della Jean, Jon Windt. This will take you to a list of my project write ups. The first one is 1987 Catalina 34 MK1 Electrical System Upgrade. Click on that and you'll be taken to the write up with step by step text, photos, and spreadsheets. There's also a link in the introduction to the original post on the message board with lots of questions, answers, graphs, etc. Last I looked it was 19 pages and 69k views.

No worries, you're still the professor  :thumb:

2 AWG is smaller diameter than 1AWG. Did you mean 1AWG is better than 2AWG for a little more cash?

I used tinned and stranded marine grade wire/cable rated for 600V, 105°C dry and 75°C wet.

I did an extensive rewire on my boat several years ago and used 1AWG for the charging system. Very happy I did. I have a write up in the Tech WIKI if you're interested. As a word of caution each boat is slightly different so you can't use someone else's dimensions for anything but reference.

Try Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co website www.aircraftspruce.com. Look under engine parts, fuel pumps, Facet. Aircraft Spruce PN 05-10832 is Facet Gold-Flo PN 476087E. Fits this application and price is $143.75 vs $216.99 at NAPA without shipping.

To help clear the mud; the MFD is a Multi Function Display also called a chartplotter. The i70 is not an MFD, it is a display of data like water depth, temperature, windspeed/direction, GPS, etc. There is some overlap with the MFD in what the i70 display's, but you can plot routes on the MFD as one example. They are two different devices.

All credit goes to Dave and Sue. I just notified him of the problem.
#13
I passed your request on to Dave to change it. He changed it this afternoon.
#14
I don't believe I have access to change it. At least it works now.

Hi Ken, I think the Manuals link is working correctly now. Give it a try.
