Main Message Board / 30 Hp M-35 Max RPM underway

I have a question for the later Mk I (Mk. 1.5) drivers with the 30 Hp M-35.

At Wide Open Throttle (WOT) what numbers do you see for RPM and Speed through the water (not GPS, Speed over ground) and what prop do you have?

I was on a friends boat recently and with a 15x10 3 blade we were 600 RPM short of WOT in neutral when underway with calm seas and a pretty clean bottom.

I'm looking for some data.

My tank was permeated!!

Prior to haul out it got pumped out, washed out with Dawn dish soap, filled with a strong (2 gal) bleach solution for a week, then pumped out. After I removed it from the locker it sat in the cockpit for the winter with an other gallon of bleach in it and all openings plugged with threaded plugs. As soon as it started to get warm in the spring the cockpit had "head odor"

With the new tank and rigid plumbing I have had zero odor all season.

The table in the photo is the prototype, made of a $15.00 Melamine covered project board from Home Depot.

This winters project is to make the real table now that the dimensions and support placements have been confirmed through a summers use.

Now the hard part comes, deciding on what type of wood to use.

The new saloon table is an unqualified success!
We now enjoy easy access to the U shaped settee and an adequate dining table.

The new holding tank installation is also a success!
No leaks, NO ODORS!!, no problems of any kind (in spite of the "Non Conventional" plumbing)

We are on the boat about 4 days a week in July and August and had a guest aboard for a 10 day cruise so both projects got a thorough test.

The disposable aluminum pans from the grocery store work very well. You can bend them to get them in place and they hold their shape to contain the spill, put a few paper towels flat in the bottom and then crumple a few more into balls and put them in to stop the splashing.

Hi all,
We are getting ready to get new saloon cushions for Cynosure and I have a question for the group. Does anyone know the name and source for the "Blue with light Dots" fabric used in the late 80's boats?

There was a choice of the blue, a greyish color, a maroon and maybe a green all with contrasting "dots" in this time period.

 We are trying to track down the spec's on the blue one.

If the leak isn't obvious try putting strips of clean paper towel around and/or under everything that has fuel in it and run the engine. The red dye is your friend, I've used this method several times on OPB to find mystery leaks.

The C34 is nice because most of the lines are relatively easy to reach.

Bob,
Look on the starboard side of the bulkhead on the inboard side of the "Ell" near the top and you will see a circle about 1/2" diameter that almost matches the surrounding fiberglass gelcoat.

 It's putty hiding the screw head. It hides it very well!

I'll get a picture next time I'm at the boat.

 A couple of suggestions based on bad experiences :shock:
Put a lot of cheap dish washing liquid in the tank and fill it half full and let it slosh as long as possible before pumping out.
Then flush with as much water as you can.

Go the grocery store and get a couple of disposable baking pans of the biggest size that will fit and several rolls of paper towels, put several layers of paper towels against the hull and in the bottom of the baking pan.

Form the baking pan to to fit under the joint and be careful!

I'll second the Pure Ayre recommendation. ( Wash with Dawn, rinse, spray the area with a strong bleach solution, rinse, rinse again and pure Ayre it)

I've replaced holding tanks and plumbing on my last 3 boats and have it down only an objectionable jab compared biological warfare the first time!

I made a cutout at the base of the mast to allow the clamps to go in with the mast stepped.

We just spent 4 nights on the boat with a guest and the new table concept is a winner. This winter I will make the final version with some nice wood.

Have you tried priming the hose?

Disconnect the inlet hose at the pump, stick a funnel in it and with the sea-cock closed fill it with water, reconnect and do not open the sea-cock until the engine is cranking (you need two people).

I do this ever spring when we launch and have never had a "dry" start. (Yes I,m anal about the engine but I'm an aircraft mechanic and it comes with the territory :D)

You are absolutely Correct about the RPM being too low, But I would check the Tachometer for accuracy.
I just replaced my prop and got a Sailor 3 blade 15x10x1 from the Catalina factory in Florida (not Catalina Direct) for $365.00.
You might give them a call 727-544-6681.

My boat is Groton so if I can give you a hand let me know. I have a photo tach if you want to check your tachometer readings.

A good use, but, "I" am the windlass on Cynosure, and you're right, it is a way to get some exercise. :D

In all seriousness though what I wanted to accomplish was to get the largest battery with the fewest components and the minimum of switching choices. So far it is working as planned with no problems and I wanted a wider input on the idea.

We hardly ever draw the bank down below 75% and we are not frugal with cabin lights or electronic entertainment.
