I just repowered my 1988 C34 with a Beta Marine 25. Question for others that repowered with same engine: what do you have as a prop? Make and size?

Others: Anyone with a Gori 3 blade prop? What size and what engine do you have?

I still have the original 15x9 3 blade and very under propped right now. 5.5 knots at 3000. WOT goes to 3800 (engine is 25HP at 3600) and get 6.5 knots. I also have the TMC 40 transmission gear ratio 2.6.

Thanks

Mark,

I meant 4 bolts permanently there (then slide bracket on them and put nut and washer) versus 4 screws. Sometimes I overthink things :) .

Thanks,

I got a bracket from them too. Nice solid stainless L bracket. Your right that 5200 might be a little runny even with just the weight of the board and two bolts (without bracket at that point). I will have to pick a method this weekend  :D . I will post pictures of what I did once all done.

Thanks,

I caught this thread just in time. I like this location better then in the cockpit locker where I was getting everything ready (have a nice looking mounting base put together).

Is your unit at an angle or just the photo making look that way? How did you mount the bracket to the hull? I going to partly use the mount I put together - actually will just be a piece of wood with bolts in from the back recessed then use 5200 to mount that piece of wood, then bolt the stainless angle bracket I picked up to it. (I think 5200 should do the job).

Ron, 1988 #687 was in my signature/profile info. I had not realized that the XPB was still available. Thanks.

As for question on why re-powering, well that is a long story - summary m25xp has been giving me problem since early days of purchase, eventually failed, poor choice on my part to do rebuild, now rebuild as failed. Not trying again, so looking at what options are out there for new.

So, I haven't found any recent posts on repowering. What engines have been used? I see some successes with beta 25, any others?
Thanks !

Ron, I saw a number of reference  to this  fact including  a more recent  test by  Stu. How would you bleed without the pump. Also, if this is the  case  why  is it a problem  when these pumps  fails? Is  it  that if they  are present  and  not working  properly  they impede flow ?

I had not seen this before my latest update on my post. I see the pump you picked up is rated max 5.5 psi (I have found a local source for the Facet pump with same rating), but from I see in Catalina Direct (and I think from the universal parts list) that the pump they have has the same 32gph, but a max of 8 psi. So, from what I'm reading you are not seeing any problems with your pump when in gear/cruising speed?

I had the pump rebuilt by a reputable shop that nany others have used (there specialty) As for re-installation  shouldn't  it be noticeable when not in gear too?
Someone mentioned that the  lift  pump may  be  a  problem. I thought I found a replacement locally, but after more research  found that this pump (facet gold-flo) comes in different capacity. The one I  found is 32gph with with max pressure 4 to 5.5 psi. I see on Catalina  direct  site that  it should  be 32gph 6.5 to 8 psi. So I'm assuming the one I found is not adequate ?

Over the winter I had my M25XP refurbished (including having the injection pump refurbished) and now after installation we have a couple problem not easily being resolved

1) We keep having to bleed at the first injector. Run engine for a while, then stop let it sit for a while (e.g. overnight), then try again and same problem. bleed at first injector (with it unscrewed, turn engine over a few time, tighten back up and then starts/runs ok). Have done this a few time. Cannot figure out where air coming from. Once running, in neutral, the engine runs smooth, can rev up (kept it under 3200), no smoking, good water flow.

2) After sorting out (temporarily) problem 1, I put into gear and I cannot get above 1700 RPM (may not be exact, but not moving much over 3knots).  Also, there is no smoke.
So I'm assuming fuel problem. From all the threads I've seen here, I know I don't have a screen on the pickup tube, I have the traditional 2 micron twist on Racor filter (replaced during re-installation of engine), the traditional facet lift pump. I could go ahead and replace everything from tank to filter on engine, but with my luck this would not solve my problem and more money spent and still not a properly working engine. Any tips on how to determine problem. I saw that there was a trial by Stu running without lift pump, but with it running (I get slow click when bleeder knob closed and faster clicks when knob open) are there known problems (I will confirm filter inside it, but was not long ago I had it replaced and was clean even when i replace it). As for the Racor filter are there known problems (other then being clogged) that could cause problems. Any tips on determining where restriction may be happening (or even a way to determine if there is a restriction problem in the first place)?

Could the two problems be related.

I'm looking for a replacement dipstick tube (part #300720). This part number is discontinued.

In then end did someone find a counterpart to this part number from Kubota ?

Mark,

Thanks for all the info and pictures. I just purchased the ev-100 also. I think I can install pretty much like you did. You mentioned the ACU-100 being on the starboard 2x4, but don't see it in pictures. Next problem I have is the location of the p70 controller. Where did you put it? Did you have to buy another cable as kit only has 3' spur (white cable) and 16' backbone. I'm assuming 3' spur was not long enough. The book shows a typical/basic system diagram where they use the backbone cable to have the ACU-100 further away. I guess keeping ACU-100, EV-1 closer together, I can use the backbone cable for the p70. If you have the p70 on pedestal, did you have concern about distance from compass as indicated in manuals?

Thanks,

Pierre

Main Message Board / HARKEN MKIV UNIT 1 FURLING
May 02, 2015, 09:49:49 AM
Has anyone replace their furling unit with a HARKEN MKIV UNIT 1 FURLING?

I have a tall rig and wanted to confirm the following:

Forstay wire is 5/16" (So unit 1 is ok).

Now my clevis pin to connect my current furling unit to tab/deck is 5/8" (others the same?). The fact it's 5/8" versus 1/2" makes the toggle component much more expensive.

Thanks.

Thanks, I will take a look at the possibility of air. I was not sure how to tell if air was getting in, did not think of bleeding while it occurs.

As for cable, I will double check (I remember trying at the engine where cable is and I was getting same reaction - i.e. not able to throttle up and could pull lever back slowly for a bit without loss of power indicating that the possible additional fuel was not getting used.)
