Title: WTB sliding track cars
Post by: dfloeter on July 22, 2015, 07:19:46 AM
I am rigging our boat for spinnaker flying and lack a set of 1 1/4" sliding track cars from which to hang a set of snatch blocks.  Might someone have an extra set in the spare parts bin that we all seem to fill over the years?

Sounds like you want to put the sheet blocks on a sliding track car on the outside track.  I don't think those tracks go back far enough.  You would be better to lash the sheet blocks to the aft cleats with soft shackles.  Loop them on the cleats and connect the block using the snap shackle.  Another option is to mount Wichard pad eyes on each rear quarter, aft of the stern cleats.  If you want to mount them to the outside track, Garhauer sells them at a cheap price.

I've been using the soft shackle on the cleat method.  I'm switching to mounting pad eyes to the transom because fumbling with putting the blocks on the cleats while the boat is in the water concerns me with dropping something overboard.

Well Roc, you make a great point about attachment location and a soft shackle.   Simpler is better anyway.   No cars needed.
