Title: Wiring up new FM radio
Post by: crieders on September 05, 2014, 03:04:28 PM
Time to replace the 25 yr old audiovox with new Sony
Took out the old radio and wiring colors have changed !
I can figure out which of the old leads has power but have no idea which sony speaker wires match which of the old ones
Any conversion wiring charts out there?

Do you still have the owners manual for the old one?
If so you could check the wire colors for each lead from the old one and label each wire so you can connect it to the new one or if the old one is still working, you could cut one wire at a time and see  which speaker goes dead.

Cliff : Take a digital multimeter and run continuity checks on the old wires from the speakers.  That way you'll know which of the speaker wires is B or R.

Then look at the Sony wiring and transfer that info.

The speaker wires are usually paired.  You probably have 4 sets, 2 for the cabin and 2 for the cockpit.  Touch the ends of each speaker wires to the terminals of a 9 volt battery.  The speaker will click with each touch.  Label and connect.  The blue wire is usually for the power antenna, won't have one of them.  You may or may not have 2 power leads.  One is on a switch, the other is always hot for the radio memory and a ground.
