Title: Ventilation Fan
Post by: dprice on May 17, 2005, 08:18:42 AM
Hi all.

After 8 months of getting up the nerve I finally drilled a 4.75" hole in my deck to install a Nicro Day/Night Solar Vent fan.  I placed the fan between the main salon hatch and the mast.  I did not want to install it in the hatch and cut down on the available sunlight.  I have no pictures but installation was pretty straightforward.  The recommended hole saw size of 4.75" is just a touch too small.  It was necessary to use a file to widen the hole slightly.  The metric hole saw size recommendation is 122mm which is 4.8".  That is probably a more accurate measurement of the necessary hole size.

I can confirm that at least on my boat, nothing was run in the deck liner at that location.

What power drill did you use for the hole saw?

I used a Rigid X2 Cordless.  It was plenty strong enough.  Deck is about 1-1/8" thick with a Foam Core.  Cuts easily.
