Title: dripless stuffing box
Post by: bobbcpa23 on June 25, 2012, 09:23:13 AM
I have a 1987 C34 and seem to be having some issues with squeaking from the stuffing box.  I burped it at the start of the season and it was fine.  After a long race in some tough waters the squeaking came back.  Burped it again and it was fine for a while but it returned.   Is it normal to have to burp it several times during the year or do i have a issue that I need to be concerned with.  Any input would be appreciated.

The newer ones come with a "vent" hose fitting so you don't ever have to burp it.

Try cleaning the shaft and flange with soapy water. Do NOT use anything other than soap!! If that does not work consult PYI on plumbing or using #400 to #600 sand paper to clean.
