Title: HX going to the radiator shop
Post by: Kirk Garner on February 19, 2011, 08:39:19 PM
After 3 years of total neglect by the PO I pulled the HX this afternoon and will take it to the local radiator shop for a good hot bath. I have ordered the new caps and gaskets from Sendure but do I take it to the shop with the existing caps in place or remove the end caps first? Not sure if it makes a difference but thought I should ask.

Thanks, Kirk

What size is your HX?  I seem to remmember some advice here that a small HX was installed on some of the earlier boats and that it should be replaced with the larger.

It's the larger 3" and appears to be in pretty good shape on the exterior, haven't looked iside yet. The PO did have rubber backing on it to protect from wear.

If you want it pressure tested on both sides then bring the caps. Some shops circulate the acidic solution through rather then a bath so it's a good idea to bring them either way..
