Title: C 34 in Caribbean 1500 Rally
Post by: Tom Lindrup on November 01, 2010, 01:58:23 PM
Just an fyi if  the group did not know but one of our C34 members is registered in this year's Caribbean 1500 Rally which will leave Hampton Virginia on Friday headed for Tortolla BVI. Hurricane Tomas has delayed the start this year which should have started on Monday 11/1.
Rick and Nancy Menzel, Hull# 1097, "Nancy Ellen" are listed in this year's cruising class 7.
Here is the link to the boat positions and it will become active once all boats start on Friday 11/5/2010. http://www.carib1500.com/Trackerclass7.htm
I  met Rick and Nancy at our  1500 Rally training session we took back in March at Annapolis and they were hard at work preparing thier boat for this event. I wish them a safe fun sail to Tortolla and hope we can hear from them on this forum.

Any word on how "Nancy Ellen" is doing? The web site has them listed as
still out in the middle of the Atlantic. No update since Nov 18.

I took this off their website: She has 615.5 miles to go as of 11/22 at 4:00 PM.  I think she has the shortest LOA in the fleet.

Sadly I noticed that there is a lost sailor from this race. Evidently a vessel named "Rule 62" diverted to the Bahamas and grounded on a reef. Three of the four crew survived but one woman is missing. You can find an account on the news page of the website.
