Title: How do you rig a Pig Stick and use it to raise a Burgee
Post by: SailDan on September 14, 2010, 12:52:19 PM
Has anyone rigged a "Pig Stick" and used it to raise your club Burgee above the mast?  I remember reading about it years ago but have forgotten the source / reference.

Several manufactures actually make Pig sticks in either aluminium or wood, just google/bing.

Basically you attach the halyard near the bottom of the staff using an appropriate hitch.  Add a down haul line.  Then attach the halyard near the middle of the staff (at the point where it will be even with the sheave) with another hitch or piece of line.  Hoist away.  One article made note that many boats with an assortment of mast head accessories may have a hard time using a pigstick without interference.
