Title: Lewmar Hatch hinges
Post by: Roland Gendreau on March 07, 2008, 11:18:03 AM
My 1992 has the Lewmar trapezoidal hatch with the rollstop hinges. A couple of years ago, I installed a repair kit for the hinges because the hatch would not remain in an open position.

The kit worked for a while and now the hinges are almost as bad as they were prior to the repair kit. The hatch will not remain open.

Has anyone else had this experience and is there any alternative? I am reluctant to purchase another $50 hinge repair kit if this is going to happen again.

If you would consider a replacement hatch.  I saw on Saturday that Minnie's Yacht Surplus has Lewmar Ocean hatches size 65 on sale...  Seems like the price was about $350.

I found one on sale on the internet- don't remember which place, and took the print out to West for a price match.  Am very pleased and the new hatches have a latch on each side and all seems sturdier.

Roland : I finally sad "screw it" and started using a custom made stick.  Actually I have 2 sticks, one for 3 inches open and one for 45 degrees.
It beats the cost of a new hinge kit and is nearly fail safe!!    :thumb:
