Title: Air Filter and Silencer
Post by: rjabara on June 18, 2025, 02:05:02 PM
As you can tell still getting to know my boat.  I see there is a silencer on my M-35.  Shouldn't there be an air filter in there?  It is and has been empty.  I suppose after a filter goes in I can work on routing the breather in there?

Thanks.

A filter wouldn't hurt, however boat engine compartments are exceptionally clean -- unlike an on-road diesel.

There are different methods to attach the crankcase breather hose (see the Wiki site for them).
The raised boss on the intake manifold is actually present to accept the breather hose when that manifold is used on a different Kubota engine.

There is a foam mesh type "band" that goes around the perforated metal cage inside the silencer.  I bought mine from a local Universal parts dealer in my area.  If you look up the parts catalog for the M35, you'll get a part number for it that you can then order from a supplier.  Mine was completely gone when I got the boat.

As for the breather inlet, I'd suggest using the boss that is there on the intake.  I haven't done mine yet, but that is what I was planning to do.

Thank you both.  I will order the filter as a start.  P/N#301049 if anyone looking for it for M35.
