Pull to port

We finally got Ten Times our new (to us) C-34 off the dock if only to go for a pump-out.  While motoring at 7 knots there was a fairly strong pull to port on the wheel, letting go of the wheel resulted in a pretty quick turn.  The hull, keel and rudder were closely inspected prior to launch and seemed OK.  The steering moves freely and the cables are tight.  Any suggestions.

 It always happens.  You DO NOT have a problem.
 
 The "pull" is beccause of the turning of the prop.
 
 Most folks coming from tiller boats don't have that issue, because they've had outboards, which they can offset to balance the helm.  
 
 Lots to learn, but you've come to the right place.
 
 The powerful and useful C34 website search engines (separate ones for the message board and the website) are valuable tools for you to use.
 
 Try searching for "prop walk" on those, too.

To lessen the effect try putting some friction on the wheel, black knob normally found on the right side of the pedestal under the throttle

A three-blade prop also reduces forward prop walk considerably and helps give much better reverse control.  Negative is more drag under sail but your PHRF gives you credit for the fixed 3-blade so it all nets out. Sort of ....  I can motor all day at any speed and have very little risistance on wheel.  BUT if you let it (or any wheel) alone, expect never ending circles!
