I am into my wire harness upgrade and discovered that tinning wire requires something that I either don't have or am not aware of.
The solder gun doesn't seem to heat the wire end enough for the solder to wick down the wire. Should I be using an iron, or is there a technique that I am not aware of?

I used a Weller 100/150 watt 'pistol' style soldering iron when I did this.  I don't recall any problems.  A 10 watt iron might struggle to do the #10 wires - I would think they would present quite a large heat sink.  Keep the iron at the tip of the wire, that's the only 'trick' I can think of.

You might try using some rosin soldering paste before you apply the solder. And don't forget to use only rosin core solder. Good Luck!

Just to cover all the bases. Make sure your soldering iron is on the high setting and not the low setting. Mine is on the high setting when I squeeze the trigger only half way. When I squeeze it all the way it is only half power. Like i said just covering all bases.
